Have a Question?

Alterations

  • WHY CHOOSE ALTER ME FOR YOUR BRIDAL DRESS ALTERATIONS

Alter Me is well known for its extensive knowledge in bridal alterations and are able to carry out the most complex alterations. This is why we are recommended by a majority of the Auckland bridal boutiques, to help their brides achieve the perfect fit.

  • WHAT ARE THE BASIC ALTERATIONS FOR A WEDDING DRESS?

The most common alterations we carry out on a wedding dress is a shoulder lift, taking in at the waist and shortening the hem. Wedding gowns are made to “standard” universal sizing and this unfortunately leads to brides needing alterations.

  • HOW MUCH DO WEDDING DRESS ALTERATIONS COST?

We cannot give pricing on alterations without having a look at the dress in person. The average bridal alteration can cost between $300 – $700. If you wish to receive a quotation for your dress, please book in a no obligation consultation and we can advise you then.

  • WHEN SHOULD I START THE ALTERATION PROCESS

The ideal time to start alterations is 6 weeks before your wedding date.

  • WHAT IS A BUSTLE? DO I NEED IT

A bustle helps to lift the train on your wedding dress off the ground so you’re able to move freely. It is ideal to have a bustle on long trains for dancing or eating purposes. This also makes it easier during the reception to prevent guests from stepping over your dress train.

  • HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO ALTER MY WEDDING DRESS

We aim to have your dress ready within 3 – 4 weeks depending on the number of alterations on the gown but it can increase to 6 weeks during the busy season. If your dress requires remodelling or fittings we would require a minimum of 4 weeks. We have completed alterations/remodels in shorter time frames but this will incur a rush fee.

  • WHAT IF I'M PLANNING ON LOSING WEIGHT BEFORE MY WEDDING

This is not a problem! We work alongside many brides who tend to fluctuate with their weight during this time. Just keep us informed of your schedule and your weight loss plans and we will schedule dress fittings accordingly.

  • IF THE BACK OF THE DRESS DOESN'T ZIP UP, CAN YOU HELP

Yes we can! There are many ways we can help fit your dress. We would require to see the dress in person in order to know which method to use. We have worked our magic on many wedding dresses and helped brides fit their gowns perfectly.

Dressmaking

  • HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE A CUSTOM WEDDING DRESS

We require a minimum of 4 months to make a bespoke wedding dress. We can make it in a shorter time frame but this will incur a rush fee.

  • DO I HAVE TO SOURCE AND GIVE YOU THE FABRICS FOR MY DRESS

We source fabrics for all our brides, whether it be for our bespoke service or alterations. We have suppliers in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom so whatever fabric you’re after, we can get it for you!

  • DO YOU MAKE CUSTOM VEILS

Yes we do! We have a range of tulles that can be used to customise and make a matching veil for your wedding dress.
We also offer an embroidery service!

  • CAN YOU CUSTOM MAKE AN EXACT COPY OF ANOTHER DRESS?

Due to copyright we cannot make an identical copy of another dress design but you can show us your inspirational photos and we will sketch a design with similar features but different that you will fall in love with!

  • WHAT IS THE PRICE FOR A CUSTOM WEDDING DRESS

Our bespoke wedding gowns start from $2500, from there the price depends on the intricacy of the final design and your final selection of fabrics.

  • WHAT IS THE PROCESS FOR HAVING A CUSTOM BRIDAL GOWN MADE

Our bespoke process is easy and stress-free for our brides so they are not overwhelmed during this exciting time.
